Trip Tip

Korean BBQ(Beef)

Gogigui literally "meat + roasting", or Korean barbecue refers to the Korean method of grilling beef, pork, chicken, or other types of meat. Such dishes are often prepared at the diner's table on gas or charcoal grills that are built into the table itself. Some Korean restaurants that do not have built-in grills provide portable stoves for diners to use at their tables. The most representative form of gogigui is bulgogi usually made from thinly sliced beef sirloin or tenderloin. Another popular form of it is galbi made from marinated beef short ribs. However, gogigui also includes many other kinds of marinated and non-marinated meat dishes, and can be divided into several categories. Korean barbecue is not only popular among Koreans, but has gained popularity internationally.

Majang Meat Market

Majang Meat Market is the latest meat market in Korea. It is equipped with Korea's most modern and cleanest facilities. The butchers here are proud of the market's size and hygienic facilities. The market sells fresh meat arriving every hour from all over the country and from overseas. The prices are overtly marked for each meat along with the country and place of origin. For the market's efforts to provide quality products, the market is recognized by the Korean Medical Association. Traders are able to trade easily thanks to the market's state of the art systems. At Majang Meat market, high quality meats are available at up to 30% less than at supermarket chains.

After you pick up your meat, you should go to a restaurant to sit and cook the meat. There is a sitting fee of KRW 5,000 a person and drinks are extra, but overall, you could have a great beef barbecue dinner for about KRW 70,000. Although the restaurants are not as luxurious as many of the top restaurants, the meat is of comparable quality. You often have to get your own refills of side dishes, sauces, garlic, and leaves for wrapping. Also, keep an eye on your fire. If it starts spitting grease, it means that you need to call a waiter, as you could have a grease fire on your hands.
