"Rally" Scoring

In the volleyball world today, we use a method of scoring called “rally” scoring. This means that every time a rally ends, a team should receive a point.

Years ago the scoring method used to be “side-out” scoring. This meant that the only way to receive a point was to win a rally off of your teams serve. If the other team served to start the rally, and you won the rally, no receives a point.
